Coro and Coro Craft Jewelry

The CORO jewelry company started doing business about 1900. It was the largest of all costume jewelry manufactures, and marked the jewelry in many different names. The list is too long to publish here but the top of their line was Coro Craft with Coro in script and with the Pegasus emblem in block or out side of block. Later the top of the line would become Vendome, and they could compete with some of the most famous manufactures of costume jewelry. Adolf Katz was the leader or head of the company and had many designer's doing work for Coro. They became famous for duettes, tremblers, door knocker and crown pins they produced. The Coro company went out of business in 1979 after 80 years of making costume jewelry.

Coro pin is signed Des. Pat. Pend., rhodium plate metal with crystal clear rhinestone. All metal and rhinestone are very good, marquise and round shape sets, pin has a 3/4 circle safety clasp. Any yellow seen in the picture is from the camera and not the sets or metal.

Coro leaf pin with crystal rhinestone and red cold enamel finish over a rhodium plate metal. Pin is in very good condition and looks lovely with the high lights of bright silver metal, all rhinestone sparkle very good. It has a 3/4 circle safety clasp, top quality work by Coro.

Pin set is from 1960, japanned black lacquer metal with dark blue and light blue AB sets. The brooch pin has a 3/4 circle safety clasp and clip earrings. One earring shows some minor loss of black on the clip part only, other wise the set is in Very Good Condition.

Item No: C-6040  1941 Coro Rhinestone Cockatoo Fur Clip
The Coro fur clip was designed by Gene Verrecchio for Coro under Adolph Katz in 1941. The cockatoo has a red rhinestone eye with crystal rhinestone body, yellow enamel beak and claws with a green vain in each leaf. This is the large one and measures 1 3/4" Wide x 5 1/4" Tall. Most all the other cockatoo clips were 3 and 1/4" long. This particular pin is scarce to find, The rohdium plate metal is in very good condition with a few of the sets showing their age. They would not be noticed when wearing. Another View.

Item No: C-4014 "CoroCraft" Sterling Vermeil Hyacinth Flower Brooch Pin
The brooch is sterling with gold finish, blue and crystal rhinestones in a lovely rose or copper 14 karat gold vermeil finish. Designed by Adolph Katz in January of 1944 and a design patent was granted on February 22, 1944 with Des., Pat., 137,351. The center top set socket has been replaced and most of the crystal rhinestones with the blue being original. All in that 1940s & 50s popular question mark motif, this one is from 1947. One small set has a few age spots but not really noticeable. Mounted in rhodium plate metal.

Item No: C-781     1950s Corocraft Blue and Crystal Rhinestone Pin
The 1950s Coro Craft pin is signed Corocraft and Pat. Pend. The design patent was issued under the number Des. Pat. 171,153 to Coro and Adolph Katz is listed as the original designer in 1954. Done in a rhodium plate base metal with crystal and light blue baguette, trapezoid rhinestone with round clear rhinestone. All rhinestone are bright and in excellent condition. The pin stem or shank has about 1/2 loss of plating to it but all the rest is good. At some time the clasp has been professionally repaired, it is secure and works good. It is a beautiful pin and has a 3/4 circle safety clasp.

The brooch is signed "Vendome" in script, done in a rhodium plate metal with crystal rhinestones and fancy cut leaded and faceted round sets, quite unusal sets. Much more pretty than the picture shows. All sets sparkle good.  The Fly pins are Coro with (Pegasus) mark and are Gold over Sterling. Lovely un foiled leaded glass set, even the small sets are un foiled. Topaz color and light blue marquise sets with large pink round and dark blue small rounds un foiled for the eyes. This was top of the line for Coro in 1940s.
